การมีภรรยามากกว่าหนึ่ง ในสังคมสมัยใหม่

  แท้จริงการมีภรรยาเกินกว่าหนึ่งนั้นเราสามารถเห็นได้ในสังคมปัจจุบัน  แต่ในสังคมที่ไม่ใช่อิสลามแล้วเรื่องนี้ถูกใช้ในนามของ เพื่อนรัก เพื่อนชู้ แทนที่การเป็นในลักษณะสามีภรรยา  และการมีภรรยาในลักษณะนี้เป็นการเกินเลยขอบเขตเหลือเกิน(มากกว่าสี่คนด้วยซ้ำ)  และเป็นไปโดยไม่มีกระบวนการทางกฎหมายมาควบคุม อีกทั้งฝ่ายชายยังไม่ต้องรับผิดชอบด้านการเงินต่อสตรีอีกด้วย  ซึ่งจะดํารงชีวิตกับเธอเพียงเพื่อตอบสนองตัณหาของเขาเท่านั้น  เขาจะทําเกียรติยศของทุกคนที่ติดต่อกับเขาให้สกปรก  แล้วท้ายที่สุดก็ทิ้งเธอไปโดยที่เธอต้องทนกับความเจ็บปวดเมื่อเธอตั้งครรภ์หรือต้องเผชิญกับเรื่องอื่นๆที่ตามมา และสำหรับผู้ชายแล้วไม่จําเป็นต้องยอมรับบุตรที่คลอดออกมาเพราะความสัมพันธ์ดังกล่าว

          ส่วนเรื่องการมีภรรยาเกินกว่าหนึ่งในสังคมอิสลาม  ถูกจํากัดคือห้ามเกินกว่าสี่  และต้องเป็นไปด้วยพิธีทางศาสนาที่ถูกต้อง และบังคับให้ฝ่ายชายจ่ายมะฮัรฺ(สินสอด)ด้วย และบุตรที่เกิดจากภรรยาเนื่องจากความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างทั้งสองหลังพิธีถือว่าเป็นหน้าที่ของฝ่ายชายที่ต้องยอมรับในฐานะที่เป็นบุตรของเขาอย่างถูกต้องตามหลักการ  และเขาจําเป็นต้องรับผิดชอบในการเลี้ยงชีพภรรยาและบุตร
